Rod Cuthbert joins the Tourism Tasmania board

Online travel and tech pioneer Rod Cuthbert has been appointed to Tourism Tasmania’s board of directors.
Rod is a proud Tasmanian and experienced executive with extensive commercial success in a career focused on the global travel industry.
He was the founder, CEO and Chair of Viator, an online travel company and global marketplace for sightseeing tours, attractions and experiences. Rod established the company and built it into the leading retailer of travel experiences in North America and Europe, with over 300,000 products booked by millions of customers annually. Viator was acquired by Tripadvisor in 2014.
“We are thrilled to welcome Rod Cuthbert to the Tourism Tasmania board,” said Chair, Grant O’Brien. “Rod will bring extensive commercial, travel industry and travel tech experience, knowledge and insights to the board. His willingness to contribute to the future success of our tourism industry is a testament to his commitment to his home state and the work of everyone who has contributed to building this important sector.”
Rod is currently a Director of leading Japanese online travel agency, Veltra and Chair of the Sydney-based, ASX-listed transportation marketplace, Jayride.
Discussing his appointment, Rod said, “After so many years focused on promoting travel in the rest of the world it’s a very welcome change to think a little more about my home state, which has many unique characteristics, and so much to offer tourists from every part of the globe.”
Rod was also the CEO and Chair of the door-to-door travel search engine, Rome2Rio and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences.
He received WebInTravel’s Hall of Fame Award for pioneering the sale of experience products online. Rod’s appointment to the Tourism Tasmania board commences immediately.
