Blueprint for Sustainable Cruise Shipping in Tasmania
A new blueprint will guide actions over the next three years to deliver sustainable cruise ship growth in Tasmania while encouraging cruise visitors to disperse regionally and invest in local communities.
Cruise shipping continues to be an important contributor to the overall success of Tasmania’s visitor economy, with passengers and crew directly spending around $30.5 million in our state during 2018-19.
The Blueprint for Sustainable Cruise Shipping in Tasmania sets goals and targets for the next three years, including lifting overall passenger spend in the state to $50 million by 2022.
It identifies a set of sustainability principles including managing the number of vessels and passengers in port at any given time through the sequencing of visits and influencing the type and size of ship visiting each port.
