Tourism Trade Ready Development Program

Tourism Tasmania is inviting Tasmanian tourism operators that wish to work with international travel trade distributors to complete a 'Tourism Trade Ready' training course.

About the course

ATEC's Tourism Trade Ready Program (TTRP) is Tourism Tasmania's preferred online course, run by the Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC), a national trainer specialising in international tourism distribution.

The online training program consists of eight online modules, aimed at educating tourism operators on how to engage and work with the travel distribution system. It enables participating businesses to learn more about travel trade distribution, what is involved, whether it is a fit for their business and long-term growth strategy and how to secure contracts with travel trade partners.

The TTRP has been developed by ATEC in partnership with Tourism Australia and with input from all state tourism organisations. The program delivers comprehensive travel trade education from a credible, knowledgeable, and experienced training organisation.

Scholarship

Tourism Tasmania is offering the opportunity for 10 Tasmanian tourism operators that wish to develop their skills in working with international travel trade distributors to apply for a course scholarship ($750 value), fully subsidised by Tourism Tasmania.

To be eligible, Tasmanian tourism businesses must:

  • Be based in Tasmania;
  • Have a current Australian Tourism Data Warehouse profile;
  • Have an online booking system and credit management system in place;
  • Be prepared to invest time to undertake the online course and introductory webinar (approximately 6-7 hours in total);
  • Be able to have 1-2 people from their business complete the course by 31 October 2024; and
  • Not already be a member of ATEC (the course is included in membership)

SUBMIT AN EXPRESSION OF INTEREST (EOI)

EOIs close 30 September 2024. All applicants will be notified about the outcome of their submission on 1 October 2024.

Further details

Applicant assessment will be based on:

  • Regional dispersal;
  • Business category;
  • Ability to invest time and resources into international travel trade events and activities; and
  • Existing contracts with international travel trade distributors.

Successful applicants will undertake the online course at their own pace from 3-31 October 2024 and attend a mandatory online information session at 10am on 7 October 2024.

Upon completion of the course, Tourism Tasmania will discuss participants’ interest in attending international trade events, including the annual Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) in 2025.

Tourism Tasmania attends ATE, which is Australia’s largest business-to-business event, to support the state’s tourism operators.

Following successful completion of the TTRP course, and after providing proof of payment to attend ATE, Tourism Tasmania will provide participants with a 50 per cent reimbursement for a full ATE appointment schedule, valued up to $2,956.

Ideally, course participants will be seeking to attend the ATE event. However, they are not obliged to attend if, after completing the course, they decide this is not the pathway for their business.
