Getting the historic Kelvedon boat shed shipshape

Will Hodgman, Premier. Rene Hidding, Liberal Member for Lyons.

Built in the early 1800s the Kelvedon boat shed is a popular and much photographed local landmark on Tasmania’s East Coast.

Unfortunately, the boat shed sustained significant storm damage in August this year.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is providing $25,000 to the Glamorgan Spring Bay Historical Society to work with the Cotton family on structural repairs which will enhance preservation of the site.

Situated on the historic Kelvedon property and listed on the Tasmanian Heritage Register, the Kelvedon boat shed is one of the most photographed structures and a popular stop for tourists along the Great Eastern Drive.

The Great Eastern Drive has been an unqualified success, with a 20 per cent increase in visitors to the East Coast since inception.

We’ve committed $34.1 million to the Great Eastern Drive to ensure East Coast tourism operators and businesses can share in Tasmania’s thriving visitor economy.
