Today I officially launched the 2017 Junction Arts Festival, a great celebration of creativity and imagination.

Beginning on 6 September and running for five days, the festival adds to Tasmania's vibrant events calendar.

The Hodgman Government is pleased to provide $1.25 million to support the festival until 2021.

The multi-arts festival highlights performances and art installations developed in unique ways, by taking contemporary art and music out of theatres, galleries and traditional music venues and out into the streets and public spaces that make Launceston special.

There are a number of fantastic events lined up, including many free events with something guaranteed to suit individual tastes.

It is important to note the hard work of the many volunteers who work tirelessly to make this event the spectacle that it is.

Hosting unique events and festivals such as the Junction Arts Festival is a major pull factor for tourists travelling to see our beautiful state, and will help reach the Government's target of attracting 1.5 million visitors per year by 2020.

I encourage Tasmanians to get out and see some of the great shows and performances that will be on display in Launceston this September.
