Tourism Tasmania is a statutory authority and as Chief Executive Officer, John has the task of fulfilling the authoritys broad objective of maximising the economic and social benefits for Tasmania by fostering a sustainable tourism industry in the state.
John works closely with Tourism Tasmania's eight-member Board of Directors to oversee the effective and efficient operation of the organisation, which employs around sixty people. He has overall responsibility for the Tourism Tasmania's marketing and destination development strategies and the delivery of programs by the marketing and planning, operations and development business units to fulfil these strategies.
In John's view, Tasmania has had some real game changers in recent years, that have built on its already high profile experiences like Tasmania's walks, food and wine, heritage, culture and arts, golf and World-Heritage listed assets. John believes that Tasmania is well placed to take advantage of the new air services, the great experiences and the work done in the last couple of years to provide a solid platform to underpin the future growth of Tasmania's tourism industry.
